No inicio de outubro a revista de cinema britânica Empire selecionou os 100 melhores filmes ingleses de sempre. Esta seleção é composta por filmes de todas as décadas e géneros, incluindo não só filmes produzidos em Inglaterra, também por realizadores não ingleses, assim como, filmes produzidos fora do país mas realizados por cineastas britânicos e com temas ingleses. É portanto uma lista muito variada e completa, para todos os gostos, que junta simplesmente o melhor do cinema inglês.
Surpresa ou não, “Lawrence da Arábia” (1962) foi eleito o melhor filme britânico de sempre. Realizado por David Lean e interpretado pelo icónico Peter O’Toole, este filme, curiosamente, foi rodado fora de Inglaterra, como em Marrocos e no sul de Espanha. David Lean tem ainda mais três filmes na lista, “Brief Encounter” (1945), que ocupa o 5º lugar, “Bridge On The River Kwai” (1957), que ocupa o 15º lugar e “Great Expectations” (1946), que ocupa o 43º lugar.
Os cinco filmes que lideram a lista são: “Lawrence da Arábia” (1962), “A Vida de Brian” (1979), “Os Sapatos Vermelhos” (1948), “Aquele Inverno em Veneza” (1973) e “Breve Encontro” (1945).
